Painful Exit: PDP Lawmaker Dies At 48

A Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker representing Ife Central constituency at the Osun state House of Assembly, Honourable Oladejo Makinde, is dead, The Guardian reports.

Reports have it that the lawmaker who died at the age of 48 in the afternoon of Sunday, December 27, was until his death the minority leader of the state House of Assembly.

The late PDP lawmaker was said to have died after a brief illness.


Confirming his death on Sunday, the chairman, Osun Assembly committee on information and strategy, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, expressed shock at the sudden departure of the minority leader.

To corroborate the confirmation of Oyintiloye, the state PDP chairman, Alhaji Gani Olaoluwa, disclosed that Makinde had died as a result of health complications.

The late lawmaker who was popularly called ‘Igwe’ was a former chairman of Ife Central local government area of the state.

Reacting to the demise of the PDP lawmaker, the state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, in a condolence message extended to the bereaved family described the death of Makinde as sudden and shocking.

The Governor who prayed for the repose of the ate lawmaker’s soul, extended his profound condolence to the immediate family, members of Osun state PDP, Ife Central and the people of Osun.

The governor urged the speaker, members of the state House of Assembly and the late lawmaker’s family to take with equanimity the loss, describing death as an inevitable end for everybody.


Governor Aregbesola said: “Though it is very painful to loose somebody like Hon Oladejo at that youthful age, but one clear lesson is the transient nature of life itself; it’s not about Hon Makinde Oladejo, but about the fact that death is a certainty that must come to every living being.

“It is my fervent prayer that God will grant him eternal home at the bosom of Jesus Christ and give the people of Ife Central the fortitude to bear the loss. We also pray God to comfort his family and give them courage and hope.”

Speaking further, the governor urged family members and supporters of the late Makinde to take heart and consider the death as an act of God, saying the lawmaker had lived a life of service, though very brief until he breathed his last.

It was reported that the remains of the late lawmaker had already been kept in a mortuary at the Ekiti state Teaching Hospital.
