The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has justified the invasion of Akwa Ibom Government House by operative of the Department of State Security DSS, saying the body acted in good faith and in consonance with the dictate of the law.

The party contended that the DSS did not violate any section of the constitution by moving against dumping of illegal arms “large enough to illegally topple a democratically elected government.”

The party was reacting to newspapers’ reports credited to Governor Ayodele Fayose disparaging President Muhammadu Buhari as a dictator, violating the nation’s law of immunity by allegedly sending DSS operatives to comb the Akwa Ibom Government House.

A statement by APC Publicity Secretary in Ekiti State, Taiwo Olatunbosun, insisted that the DSS operatives acted in the nation’s interest to check what would have been a threat to national stability and reversal of fortunes for the nation’s economy.

Olatunbosun told the governor that the constitution empowers secret service operatives to strike at any part of Nigeria under security threat, it also permits them to maintain peace saying immunity does not cover government house.

“Let us educate Fayose that a Government House is not the same as foreign embassies or missions that enjoy physical immunity from security activities by local armed forces.

“While a governor enjoys immunity from physical and body security search, the same cannot be said of the Government House because no law in the nation’s constitution says the Government House should be a breeding ground for insurrection and insurgency where state enemies can assemble arms to topple a legitimate government.”

He lampooned the governor for trying to whip public sentiment against DSS operatives who were performing their legitimate duty to secure the country, saying no amount of blackmail would stop security agents from performing their legal duties against violent and corrupt governors.
